Foundation Waterproofing Services in Ohio
Ohio’s clay-heavy soils, high seasonal moisture, and freeze-thaw cycles make foundation waterproofing a structural necessity — not an optional upgrade. A poured concrete wall without proper waterproofing is vulnerable to hydrostatic pressure, water infiltration, efflorescence, and long-term degradation. Armada Poured Walls installs complete exterior foundation waterproofing systems on every new foundation we build, protecting your investment from day one.
Why Ohio Foundations Need Waterproofing
Ohio receives an average of 38–39 inches of precipitation per year, with significant snowmelt in late winter and spring. The state’s glacially deposited clay soils have low permeability — they do not drain quickly, and they hold moisture against foundation walls for extended periods after rain events. The result is sustained hydrostatic pressure that exploits any weak point in a foundation wall: form tie holes, hairline shrinkage cracks, cold joints, or inadequately sealed wall penetrations. Without an active waterproofing and drainage system, that water finds its way inside.
Our Exterior Waterproofing System
Exterior waterproofing is the correct approach for new construction, applied before backfilling while the exterior face of the foundation wall is fully accessible. Armada’s standard waterproofing system includes:
- Waterproofing membrane or coating applied to the exterior face of the poured wall from footing to grade
- Dimple drainage mat installed over the membrane to protect it during backfill and channel water downward
- 4-inch perforated drain tile placed at the footing level in a bed of clean stone, wrapped in filter fabric to prevent clogging
- Drainage connection to a sump pit, daylight outlet, or municipal storm system depending on site conditions
This system intercepts groundwater before it can build pressure against the wall and directs it away from the structure entirely. Read our in-depth guide on interior vs. exterior waterproofing methods for Ohio homes.
Interior Waterproofing for Existing Structures
For existing homes where the exterior foundation wall is not accessible without major excavation, interior drainage systems manage water that has already entered the wall by channeling it to a sump pump before it accumulates on the floor. This is a remediation approach for structures already experiencing water intrusion. While effective at keeping basement spaces dry, interior systems do not address the source — water pressure against the exterior wall — the way a proper exterior system does.
Part of a Complete Foundation System
Waterproofing is most effective when it is designed into the foundation from the start. As part of our complete foundation package — which includes excavation, concrete footings, and poured concrete walls — we install the waterproofing and drainage system before the first shovel of backfill goes in. Builders working with Armada across Northeast Ohio, Central Ohio, and Southwest Ohio receive a fully waterproofed foundation ready for backfill, with no third-party waterproofing subcontractor to coordinate.
