Concrete Footing Installation Across Ohio
Every poured concrete foundation wall sits on a continuous concrete footing — and that footing’s depth, width, and bearing conditions determine how the entire structure above it performs over time. Armada Poured Walls installs engineered concrete footings for residential and light commercial projects across Ohio, including Cleveland, Akron, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dayton.
What Are Concrete Footings?
Footings are the widened base of a foundation wall that distributes structural loads across a broader area of soil. Without a properly sized footing, the wall above would concentrate its load on too small a bearing surface, leading to settlement, cracking, and structural failure. Footings are always placed on undisturbed, approved soil or engineered fill — never on organic material or poorly compacted backfill.
Ohio Frost Line and Footing Depth Requirements
Ohio’s frost depth varies by region: approximately 36–42 inches in Northeast Ohio, 30–36 inches in Central Ohio, and 24–30 inches in Southwest Ohio. All footings must be placed below the frost line to prevent seasonal heave from freeze-thaw cycles. Local building departments enforce these depth requirements through permit-required footing inspections before the concrete pour is authorized. Footing Types We Install
Continuous Strip Footings
The standard for residential construction — a continuous concrete footing running the full perimeter of the foundation. Sized based on the number of stories and wall loads per Ohio Building Code prescriptive tables or engineering drawings.
Stepped Footings
Required on sloped sites where the footing must step down in elevation to maintain consistent bearing depth while following the grade. Each step is poured monolithically with proper transition dimensions.
Spread Footings for Column Loads
Isolated spread footings beneath structural columns or posts, sized by engineering analysis to handle point loads that exceed what a continuous strip footing manages.
The Footing-to-Wall Connection
The interface between the footing and the poured concrete wall is critical to the foundation’s structural performance. Armada uses keyways formed into the top of the footing and horizontal rebar dowels to create a mechanical connection between the footing and wall pour, ensuring both elements act as a unified system rather than two independent layers.
Complete Foundation Package
Footings are one component of a complete below-grade system. Armada handles the full sequence: excavation, footing installation, poured concrete walls, and foundation waterproofing. One contractor, one scope, full accountability from the first bucket of dirt through the finished wall. We serve all three major Ohio construction markets — Northeast Ohio, Central Ohio, and Southwest Ohio.
